Issued to and autographed Cincinnati Reds outfielder Jay Bruce during his 2008 rookie campaign, this Louisville Slugger “S318” block-letter model bat hails from a season in which Bruce enjoyed an auspicious start by reaching base in each of his first six plate appearances. The maple weapon is void of the customary center brand and is signed in black marker (“9” strength) just to the left of the barrel stampings. The (31.4-oz/34-1/4”) lumber exhibits evidence of heavy use with ball, bat-rack, cleat and stitch impressions throughout, as well as transposed ink stampings from OML baseballs. A heavy coat of pine tar extends from the knob to more than 17 inches toward the barrel and a circular-shaped coat of black paint covers the knob. barely visible through the thick pine-tar application, a series of hairline cracks are present on the handle.
