Fierce competitors throughout their respective careers, Hall of Famers Mickey Cochrane, Dizzy Dean, Jimmie Foxx and Tris Speaker reconvened for a heated October battle in 1946. Three of those four, of course, had ties to that year’s World Series combatants but despite their allegiances, they were together this time merely to fraternize and enjoy the Fall Classic atmosphere. Gathered at a Boston eatery, the diamond legends autographed this souvenir scorebook. The 16-page baseball-shaped relic has unmarked inning-by-inning scoring grids for Games 1 through 7 of the 1946 World Series (appropriately, as that series went the distance). Not missing out on advertising opportunities, Walton’s Restaurant menu items are listed on each page. Appetites aside, the main attraction is the front cover, where each of the above-mentioned quartet has signed in pencil. Dean and Cochrane have rendered smaller signatures that project (“7-8” strength, while both the Foxx and Speaker scriptings show (“8-9”) potency. The item shows amazing preservation with very faint rust stains near the vintage staple securing the spine. Full photo LOA from JSA.
