Description

Originally created by a South Carolina baseball enthusiast, the famous “Black Betsy” bat quickly became a favorite weapon of Shoeless Joe Jackson, so much so that it was virtually an extension of the ill-fated star, who kept it by his side until his death in 1951. Capitalizing on the popularity of such models, Spalding produced retail versions like this 1910s-1920s example. Turned from high-grade hickory, the (31.4-oz/34”) lumber features a bark brown finish, a “Black Betsy” center brand and “Top Flight” barrel stamping. The uncracked relic shows extensive sandlot use.
