Read all about it in this group of (6) postwar periodicals from our Northern Neighbor. These well preserved magazines titled “The Standard” are from Montreal, Canada and range in dates from 1946-1950. Billed as a “Comics, Novel, Photonews, Magazine” these six 11x16 issues printed on newspaper quality stock feature bright clean full color covers with supple paper feel, light to moderate spine wear, minor edge fraying and light cream pages. The highlight of this lot is the 4/20/46 issue featuring a rare photo of Jackie Robinson on the cover. This photo is accompanied by the caption “In defiance of Baseball’s unwritten color ban, Branch Rickey signed negro rookies Jack Robinson and John Wright for his AAA farm club, the Montreal Royals.” This particular issue has moderate spine spear with some splitting along the lower half, which does not affect the appeal of this significant photo. Also included in this lot is a 5/3/47 issue with a cover photo of Leo Durocher and a caption about his one year suspension, as well as, 7/8/50 issue with Chuck Connors on cover, famed television actor from the popular TV series "The Rifleman."
