Description

One decade removed from their “Whiz Kids” National League pennant achievement, the 1960 Philadelphia Phillies had but two players remaining from that World Series roster. Following a 9-4 opening day loss to Cincinnati, Phils skipper Eddie Sawyer proclaimed: “I’m 49 years old and I want to live to be 50” and promptly resigned, giving way to Gene Mauch. Destined for their third of four successive last-place finishes, (28) members of that 1960 Phillies roster autographed this ONL Giles baseball. The creamy sphere (grade “7”) is decorated with blue ballpoint signatures that range from (“7-8”) to (“4”) in terms of strength and clarity. Includes: Sweet Spot Mauch (manager) and Farrell; North Panel Dalrymple, Walters, Del Greco, Callison and Roberts; South Panel Herrera, Curry, Lepcio, Neeman, Coker, Malkmus and Short; West Panel Silvestri (coach), Cohen (coach), Taylor, Conley, Neiger, Green, Koppe and Smith; East Panel Lowrey (coach), Buzhardt, Amaro, Walls, Mahaffey and Owens.
