Together, Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers embodied boundless courage and friendship. Showcasing the autographs of both Chicago Bears legends, the offered framed display goes beyond the realm of collectibles. Displayed with a 14-5/8 x 18-7/8” frame, Piccolo’s blue ballpoint cut signature shows (“9-10”) strength (teammate Ed O’Bradovich has also signed the piece). Just below, Sayers has signed the white matting (black ink, “8-9” strength). Full photo LOA from JSA. More on our website.
Accenting the Piccolo/Sayers autograph display is a black-and-white action photo of Piccolo in the November 9, 1969 contest. It marked Piccolo’s last-ever appearance at Wrigley Field and the Bears’ lone win of that season. Piccolo, who scored his final NFL touchdown that day, is pictured running the ball and maintaining his balance while Sayers and Pittsburgh Steelers defenders Lloyd Voss and Brian Stenger follow in pursuit.
Also included is a letter signed by Piccolo’s widow, Joy Piccolo. Framed to 10 x 11-1/4”, the typewritten correspondence is dated “February 1, 1972” and is signed by Mrs. Piccolo in black ballpoint (“8-9” strength).
