While the language was crude, Ty Cobb meant only respect as he opined “That Goddamned Dutchman is the only man in the game I can’t scare” regarding Honus Wagner. Paying tribute to Wagner in the 1904 “Husky Hans” musical composition, Pennsylvania’s Carnegie Union identified Wagner in more civilized terms as “3 Times Champion Batsman of the National League” on this vintage sheet music. Measuring 10-3/4 x 13-3/4”, the six-page item features a black-and-white likeness of the Bucs legend on the front cover. The pages within contain bass and treble clef scores with notes and lyrics in six-eights “march” time. This turn-of-the-century piece shows amazing preservation with minor edge foxing and spine wear with minimal separation. Surprisingly, the covers/pages are virtually crease-free.
