As Hall of Fame and 500 Home Run Club keepsakes go, this 1940 Fenway Park ticket stub holds ample credentials. Encapsulated and Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA, this “Box Seat” voucher was issued to one in a scant gathering of 7,830 on August 19, 1940. In that day’s contest between the first-place Cleveland Indians and host Boston Red Sox, Jimmie Foxx connected for career home run No. 497 as he grew ever closer to becoming just the second player to reach the once-unfathomable plateau of 500. In addition to Foxx’s circuit clout that day, Hall of Fame teammate Ted Williams launched career circuit clout No. 49 and Bobby Doerr also went deep. The voucher features printed seating/event details and presents nicely. Of note was the small crowd that day in spite of the BoSox' contention status. With a 16-7 triumph that day, Boston pulled to within six games of the Tribe. The Red Sox were to climb to within four games as late as September 10, but a 5-10 swoon to close the season spelled doom.
