Assessing his own talents, former slugger Dick Allen declared: “I can play anywhere: first, third, left field; anywhere but Philadelphia.” But that’s exactly where the oft-moody star returned for the 1975 and 1976 seasons. Coerced out of retirement, Allen brandished and autographed this Hillerich & Bradsby “P89” signature model lumber as he helped the 1976 Phils to their first postseason appearance since 1950. Graded GU 8 by PSA/DNA, the (37.9-oz/36”) white ash war club shows outstanding use with ball, bat-rack, cleat and stitch marks throughout. On the barrel, Allen’s black marker autograph (“9” strength) is accompanied by a personalization and salutation. A crack on the handle’s upper portion has been secured by (4) bat boy nails and the knob is home to a black marker notation of “15.” Full photo LOA from John Taube, PSA/DNA (for bat use only).
