Should his progression continue and the lofty aspirations come to fruition, this 2008 Matt Wieters game-used bat will be among the most coveted weapons in any collector’s arsenal. Turned and employed one season before the highly touted backstop’s debut in Baltimore, this D-BAT “DB-161” (31.4-oz/34”) signature model lumber features a black “Smith” finish and an American flag-themed manufacturer’s decal. The uncracked maple bat shows moderate use with a series of ball and deeply embedded stitch marks on the barrel. Accompanying the facsimile signature on the barrel stampings are “#32” and “O’s” identifiers. Wieters wore “32” for both the Frederick Keys and Bowie Baysox in 2008 and “O’s,” of course, represented the parent club. Full photo LOA and COA from Ball Park Heroes.
